I amnot trying to say you are right are wrong, but I woudl like to understand how those vents are not cooling the coil.
MTX Website (Didn't they start those vents? I am not sure, buit I think so):
"Spider Plateau Venting is characterized by twelve ½"-wide x 3/4"-tall vented aluminum grilles in the 8000 Series. These grilles surround the voice coil between the motor structure and the spider, the area of the woofer that gets the hottest. Cool air is directed in and warm air is pushed out of this key area allowing the woofer to handle lots of power while keeping the voice coil cool. This translates to an all around better performing subwoofer. All of these features add to Thunder8000's cool factor - literally."
I have a set of these subs at home in the closet, and no pole vent.
Maybe there is something different in the basket used in the MT, but just by design, air has to be moving in and out of those vents when the coil moves in and out, assuming the dust cap/top of the coil is sealed.
