Actually, I have been able to hear differences between amplifiers, but this is the wrong place for that. I argued that
HERE and
HERE showing my results! I did the test TWICE just to ensure that the playing field was leveled!
When I talk about the "old" HiFonics, I mean that I have seen HiFonics amps from 15 to 20 years ago that are still running and needed NOTHING done to them, whereas I see HiFonics amps from two years ago that require repair or total replacement! I have had this argument with others regarding being built better or being built cheaper, and most stuff lately is being built as cheaply as possible with maximum profit in mind!
I guess that is the price us consumers pay for affordability. IIRC, the HiFonics Zeus V1 retailed for close to $900 in the 80s and it was a whopping 300 RMS X 2 @ 4 ohms stereo or 900 x 1 @ 4 ohms mono. If we took inflation into consideration, $900 in 1985 would be the equivalent of $1,700 with today's dollar. Today, you can get a Hifonics ZXi 1308 from
Sonic Electronix for $280 and it does 325 x 2 @ 4 or 1300 x 1 @ 4.
Don't even get me started on the local kids who believe Legacy and Pyramid's maximum power (before the amp catches on fire) rating schemes...
