Are you really for real? Hell yes it is better to run a properly sized wire straight back to the battery. Please enlighten me as to why you think the chassis is the way to go.

Really? So you are telling me, if there was a positive wire from batt to amp, and no wires at all back to the batteries negative, but there is a wire from amp to chassis, everything would work.

Here's an idea, since you & CHEMMINS seem to think a battery's negative terminal is such a great ground. You guys go disconnect that short black wire that runs from the battery's negative terminal to the frame of the vehicle. Now, start said vehicle.

You're quite mistaken. The battery negative post is the ground reference in a car. The chassis merely acts as a buss bar to complete the circuit back to the battery.

Yes. The battery is just there to start the engine. Theoretically you don't need a battery for anything else so long as your alternator can handle the electronics that are being ran once the engine is started. The alt is where your main power source it, and it is grounded.

Start a car, then unhook the negative wires from the batt...assuming the amp is grounded to the frame and not back to the battery, and there's a ground from the engine block to the frame, then the loop is completed and everything will work fine. A battery is accumalative, meaning it's power is circulating. I get that. I'm just talking about car audio & grounding an amplifier 15ft away.

No....it's sad really. How someone cannot understand the simple concept of a circuit. The fact that a ground is a return path for electric current.
