Are component speakers worth the buy?

Welcome to the forum.

Are component speakers worth buying as opposed to just going with a less expensive and easier to install set of coaxials?

In a word? Yes!

But, sadly, those Kenwoods are more than a bit lacking as far as component sets go.

In that pricerange you can find much better sounding drivers. (bear in mind this comes from a die-hard Kenwood loyalist so it's not advice given lightly)

Edit: I just noticed that you plan on using headunit power rather than an outboard amplifier and that changes things a bit.

Component sets will want considerably more power than a headunit can give them to operate at their best so in your situation of not planning to purchase an amp you'd probably get more satisfactory results using a mid-level set of coaxials instead.

Sorry guys but im a little clueless when it comes to this kinda stuff. For those who said that id be better off staying away form the component could you recommend me coaxials.

And i was just using that kenwood component as an example, im not really set on anyone yet. Care to suggest a better one in that price range?

Thanks a lot for any futher help.

yes the component set that you choose is lacking a lot.... u are able to do a lot better for that price range. if you are going to run components, which are well worth the money and extra time to install, i would suggest amping them

alright well what is your price range?

do you want to go witht he components and amp them or do you just want to stick with coaxials off the head unit?

Like I said im pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff. Basically im looking to upgrade my cars sound and my budget is around $250 but i need to buy a head until still also. I really dont want to put too much money into my car because its really not that great of a car(96 saturn SC2) and im not sure how long i will have it. So now that i understand that im going to have to amp the components i think ill just go with the best sounding coaxials i can afford.

And while im here i was thinking of buying the head unit below. Its pretty cheap and its not a top brand, but it fits all my needs and ive read a lot of good reviews on it. This plus a top pair of coaxials would be a signifigant upgrade over the 10 year old stock system right?

It is possible that in no other area of consumer spending does the truism You Get What You Pay For stand correct outside of aftermarket car audio.

Dual is the modern-day Roadmaster. They promise top-notch performance on a penny-pincher's budget and with that mantra firmly and repeatedly touted by their marketing people they've managed to sell more than a few units. Unfortunately they simply don't stand the test of time. Reliability and longevity are more than a bit problematic for them and as such they've left more than a couple of unhappy end users in their wake.

Truly I understand not wanting to invest heaps of money into a car you aren't certain you'll be keeping very long but the upside to car audio is that is isn't going to live permanently in whatever vehicle it gets installed in unless you see fit for that to happen.

Get yourself a nice headunit. (You'll be glad later on down the road, trust me) If you get rid of the Saturn 4 days after getting the new deck? The new deck can come out rather than become the property of the car's new owner. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
