are all sony amps crap????

i know alot of people say sony car audio really sucks and i know thats the case with their subs and lower line amps but what about their higher end amps. They have a class D amp that does 900 rms at 2 ohms and i've heard of people running it at 1 ohm for more power do you guys this amp would be decent or is it crap like the rest????

sony up to mid/late 90's was good, everything since is cheap, misrepresented crap.

longer answer....their older pre xplod stuff was very solid. I ran es mobile stuff for years without a single issue

Yeah the older ES stuff was actually pretty **** good and ahead of it's time.. then all the sudden they hit the wall really really bad...

I've got one of those old school sony's on my alpine coax's, and its been doing me well. Can't say anything about their newer stuff though, never had any experience with it.

The old (90's) Mobile ES amps are great. All the new Xplode ones are a joke.

Sony really has taken a dive.

From my experience with the Xplod amps (rather limited, set one up for a friend), it seems to work okay, it does its job driving a cheapo sub. But it is a very entry-level amp, doesn't seem to put out rated power, and there are much better options out there for your money.

If you need an amp, what's your budget for it? Perhaps we can suggest something else.

I agree with all above, the old school ES stuff was solid, they however went the way of the dinosaurs after that

actually i do believe him. He seems like a real trustworthy guy i have done business with him and he seems to know his shit when it comes to car audio.

the model number on that amp is Sony XMD-9001GTR

meh i have a cheap lower line sony in my set up right now while my Kicker amp is getting fixed and I have to say im very surprised with this sony amp

I got it for free from A guy I used to work with.

I just use it to make sure im getting power,make sure speakers work, etc.

Well I have it hooked up to an Audiomobile Mass and it sounds decent.

I was ready for it to sound wimpy and just over all bad sound but its ok.

If a lower line like this is decent then the higher ups should be about the same

I think people on here have not even tried Sony stuff and just go with what everyone else says

"Well A guy who told a guy who told him says that sony is not good" That seems to be the case on most forums.

On differant forums people love X brand and on other people love Y

I say go for it
