I know nothing about any of those subs. No experience. So. Do you want all out SPL or do you want it to sound good? Or both.

little bit of both..leaning a little more towards SPL however.

im just talking about in theory..2 10's have more surface area, and should be louder than a 12, yes?

The 10's have a cone advantage, but it is all in the install. There was a single 10 SPL install that got close or broke 170 I think and there are installs with loads of 10's/12's/15's etc that can't break 150. More cone does not always equal more output, in most cases it will but not always.

Yep, that was Nathan Munsun (a DD I believe). I learned just about all I know from him....not as much as him but......

Lawl. That same theory says that a 15 has more surface area and therefore should be louder than a single 12 or pair of 10s. I seem to be hung up on your idea of getting a 12 or pair of 10s louder than a 15 with the same power.

Anyway, if I had 1500 watts and the money, I would go with a Mach 5 SPL simply because I think a pair of HDC3s needs more power and I would give the Mach 5 the nudge over the NightShade for price.

ive owned the HDC3 and the SPL 12, and the SPL 12 was far better than the HDC3. i didnt like the AQ really at all.

i'm sure the 2 aq's would be louder... but i would still go for either of the 12's. so many problems with the hdc3's

Everyone I have known with a hdc has had problems and hated it. The nightshade is louder and will handle more power. If you have the money go with the nightshade. The spl12 is also a great sub if you are on more of a budget.
