I recently bought some sealed boxes that are around .75 cubic feet on the inside, and I'm wondering if theres anyway to make them ported and still have them retain some good sound while being louder? I have rockford fosgate punch stage 1 subs 10".

thanks

welcome to the forum! those boxes might be too small for those subs, not sure on the exact specs though.....plus when you add in the ports displacement, that'll take up even more space. you should make your own box, you'll get way better sound, and it'll cost ya around 25 for the wood (mdf) and like 10 for something to seal it off with and screws......pm me if you want some box plans.......

no but for real though, it'd be more beneficial and probably easier to just build a dedicated ported instead of trying to doctor a box that is not supposed to be used for it. better results, less headaches.

According to the port calculator on the12volt.com a .75cuft box with a 1'' port @ a length of .75'' (MDF thickness) you get 44hz... Like I said I don't know if that is accurate or not, just what the calculator says...

you drill a 1/2 inch hole, and you could get yourself in the ballpark of a typically tuned box with a port length of 3/4 in. is it practical, beneficial, or worthwhile? NO. technically, it is possible.

According to the calc again a 1/2'' hole is tuned to 25hz... this would be an interesting experiment on a prefab box... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif A .75'' port diameter gets 35hz... Wonder how much port noise there would be... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks for the input guys, I think im just going to use these sealed boxes as-is for a while, and upgrade to custom ported boxes to fit into the extended cab portion of my S-10 pickup sometime in the future. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks again,

well he could always make a bigger hole and mount an external port on it that would kill port noise wouldnt it? and it wouldnt take away form his 0.75cu.ft (wow thats small, I have double that on a single 10")
