Yea seems common, I didn't test it though. What source media did you use? 0DB cd?

that is normal if it's the 4V outputs, they are designed to play at full volume with no clipping. They started that back with the old 7909 iirc (late 80's) in response to criticism from Clark and Navone when the average headunit was less than 2V and they tended to clip at 80% or less of total vol setting.

All of the Alpines I have tested usually start clipping at vol. 21. Its only about 1-5% clipping though

my alpine 9835 clips at volume 31 out of 35

yup, RCA outs. 0 dB tone. Bass/treble all flat.

This is on the sub control with sub level to max.

I have not tested the new 08 models though.

if you are testing the sub outs, I wouldn't doubt it all that they clip at least a little. I guess they figured no one cares, since most people clip the squat out their bass amps anyway.
