anyone in the air force?

Air force is the way to go if you are book smart, outta shape and lazy and dont want to get hurt, dirty, cut, scraped, cold, hot, sweaty, sick, insomnia, sore shoulders, lack of food, when you do get it cardboard tastes better, etc etc.

But i Love my Corps. I have no regrets. Its just the BS that you get used to and learn to live it love it cherish it. The Few, The Proud, The MARINES! oorah, kill, yutt and all that other happy horsesh!t

Thats Bullshit, I've probably done more shit in the AF than you have, beside possibly shot someone, don't know if you have. But get that book smart, outta shape and lazy and dont want to get hurt, dirty, cut, scraped, cold, hot, sweaty, sick, insomnia, sore shoulders, lack of food, when you do get it cardboard tastes better, etc etc crap out of here. I haven't been a desk jockey since day 1. I've busted my *** in Oman, Iraq, Qatar building bombs and shit to help every branch that needed support.

The physical side is starting to get up there with the Army and Marines, maybe not with a sack on your back, but its not as easy as it use to be...ie the bike test.
Advancement comes from how you test on the WAPS test, which is competed by your specialty code not everyone that is your rank. I think its like that for all branches. You get up to E-4 without testing then test the rest cept that E-8/9 are also up to your peers.

As I said I'm about to hit 8 years and reenlisted last year for another 4 so I'll be at almost 11 when thats up. Don't know if ill doo all 20. Since the career i'm in pays hella more outside.
I guess my point is not so much about how you are promoted but rather the number of slots available. I may be off base, I am really stating this on my observations of the Marines that I was around. They just seemed to have a lower pay grade compared with their Army counterparts with similar time in service. Of course, the AF may have more of a top heavy structure than the Marines which would nullify, to some extent, my point.

hmm its this talk which questoins WHY people think SO much of service men,

yes, i do acknowledge and aplaud you for joining the service to "serve" our country but it's really funny that about 80% of the people that join only joined because they had no other option of bettering their lives; for THAT reason are they supposed to be looked upon HIGHER than me in society? Because someone had nothing going on in their life that they joined the military and now all out of the sudden they are better than me? Service people have as much respect from me than the average civilian taking care of thier family and working a regular job. They get NO special treatment from me like other people give them, thinking they are sacraficing themselves for our country's liberties; the truth of the matter is they joined because they had nothing else going on or to better themselves for the FUTURE, not for our nation......

i can expand but regal8r I am proud to say you've a great e-friend, i you join ANY military service I only wish you the best and I hope you find what your looking for.

if you think the navy is fully of fat and lazy people.

you are half right. because people in the navy are tired of getting screwed by their commands and getting no recognition for doing anything they do. im tired of it and its only been 1.5 years.

sure there are some fat people. and sure there are a lot of lazy people, fat people - well i dont know how they got in. there is a PR2 in my command that looks liek he weighs like 275 and is like 5'5". its rediclious. he just failed his second PRT and if he fails one more - he is out for good. thats the rule, and thats what happens - dont make up this 'they dont get kicked out' crap. they get two more chances (liek a year) to get back into shape - and its manditory. or they are done.

and what service out of all of them live on a boat for five+ months at a time. yea you may think living in iraq is crappy. try living on a old *** ship for 5~8 months working 12+ hours a day 24\7 on the flight deck when its like 110 not including the jet exaust you are breathing in the whole time. walking around on non-skid and running up and down ladderwells bringing parts from one side of the ship to the other.

im tellin ya. the ship is not fun.

nothing against you, but i see it differently, having being in their shoes. maybe they joined because it would help better their lives. you also "volunteer" to work your job to better your life, correct? the difference is that these people are getting shot and killed in their line of work. there are also a lot of people that didnt join because of the benefits. i've met very wealthy people that joined for different reasons, being they thought it was the right thing to do, or family traditions or whatever. i know quite a few people that are in Iraq/Afghanistan at this very moment. i have the utmost respect for all of our servicemen and if it weren't for these people (very few i should say, in comparison to the overall population) we would not be able to enjoy our freedoms (which are getting ever-so-thinned). i know this war isn't for our freedom, or anything to do with our country at all, but the people are there doing their job and getting killed while representing our country. and for that i can respect them

they almost ALWAYS pay better as a civ. id rather run than do that power cycling crapola yall have... just looks like you like it in the rear doin that... not too much offense

I'd rather run as well and we don't do the bike test anymore. They phased that out about 4 years ago, only a very small % do that anymore. I dont know what the **** your last sentence ment.

I Feel you Req about life on the ship... BLOWS... no pun intended. ( ya know whistles and all the like..nvm) ACE, hey man, oorah for helpin all of our brothers, but come to think of it, it is our light hearted competitivnous(sp?) between the branches that kind of brings us together in our own sick way. But remember you are not the only ordinance technician out there in Iraq, you have Marines, Sailors, other Airmen, and soldiers in the sandbox making sure we can get the bombs to the fight. OORAH!

Caliboy.. Are you trying to say that many of my brothers and sisters in arms joined because we had nothing better to do or no other way to better our own lives? We CHOSE to fight for our country. It IS a sacrifice that we make. Not being around our families, our friends or even our own country a lot of the time. As Req was saying he is stuck on a **** boat 8 months out of a year, sharing a small *** room with at least 4 other sailors, probably hot racking and the only space he can really call his own is about 3 feet wide, 6 inches long, and he only has 2 and a half feet of clearance before he rams his head into the overhead beneath another sailors bunk. he has approx. 6 inches deep of storage space underneath his rack, and one of the small gym locker room style lockers to keep all of his personal belongings.

We are TOLD what to do and how to do it all day everyday. We have orders and regulations governing all that we do.

If you foul up on a job, you get fired right? If we foul up, we get demoted, loss of all pay and benefits and thrown into club fed?

see my comparison? I know i only hit very few points but there are many more.

I am not saying we are Any better people than civilians, but typically we are a lot more disciplined and have a much higher work ethic and a sense of comradarie

Agree 100%, hell every branch is competitive against each other, but its all in good fun.....most of the time. Sometimes you have dumbass in every branch. And each have their own lazy ***** and fat *****.
