I am making some as we speak! I bagged that 8-pointer I have been watching this morning.
There are some MONSTERS down there though! Seen a 14pt+ this morning, I would guess he is pushing 200", just MASSIVE but he is smart. Wouldn't get closer than about 75 yards and that ain't gonna happen with my bow. This weekend should be GREAT hunting! I have over 100lbs of meat in the freezer and I still have 4 other tags to fill too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
The story: Sitting in my folding canvas chair at about 7am at the edge of the creek facing inward. I hear something behind me, I turn and across the creek I see the 8-pointer I have been watching for a few days now. I take a shot and of course NAIL IT, PERFECT shot. It goes about 50 yards and drops. Then I realize, I just shot a deer on the OTHER side of the creek, it IS still our land but there is no way to get to it other than straight across the creek. There is an 8ft drop on both sides and the water is about 3.5-4 feet deep. I eventually man up, jump in the water and fight my way up the bank on the opposite side. About 100~ yards in I find him and start dragging him toward the creek. I get him to the edge and realize I am boned.
I go back to the farm and wake up the brother-in-law and tell him "I shot a deer, we have to go for a swim". We jump in the truck and head back to the deer. About half way he wakes up and realizes what I said and was pretty confused! LOL ANYWAYS, we get there and he sees what we have to do and is surprisingly OK with it. We get across, throw the deer over the edge, into the water and luckily, he floats. So we cross the creek and field dress him on the other side. We then manage to get him up the 8ft ledge/bank and into the truck. It is unusually warm at 50* luckily but that water was still COLD! We hang him in the machine shed and get to work on him.
