my brother in law is also in the oil bus, he is a lawyer for one of the larger oil companies here. He said that for the most part, if you go to any of these places out of country you are basically on a US army base, surrounded by soldiers and pretty well defended. They also have escape plans already in place in case things get bad. One of the locations he goes to has the Navy right outside the base and can evacuate the entire base within 12 hours. So while it will ****, you will make good money, not be taxed on it and you are fairly protected. Its a tough choice though to leave everything you know to go to another country, but then again, in 20 years are you going to be wondering what would be differnet if you had?

Well my company needs smbdy in Kuwait and its 1-3 yr assignment.

all i know there r NO TAXES.

im in kuwait right now. its a big dust bowl lol. ever seen sand dunes? well if not u will. kuwait city is nice. its alot like a normal american city. high rises. business's. many of countries use kuwait city for business.

being in the military and doing the military thing i know that we dont have to pay federal taxes. but a civilian contracter i dont know about.

I hope its not THAT conservative

It is certainly less conservative than Saudi, but it would still be a huge challenge. I guess it is possible that the market demand is now being met somehow though.

all travel expenses will be paid and I will have House/apt, car+gas , full insurance - not sure about food

not really wasting it when you get 3X your salary tax-free. Of course im assuming that it would be 3X what he is currently making.
