Any 18" subs comparable to JL 18w6?

I like you man. Stick around this forum.

Since you seem to care alot more about the final sound, i would definitely follow the advice given so far, a solid 10 ported in 1.5ish cubes will sound great. What are you driving? I'm sure somebody else on the forum has same/similar car as you, and they can tell you from experience what sounds good in there.

Welcome to the forum!

the 15" takes 1.25cu and the 18" takes 1.75cu, ported is not recommended for the 18".

I have heard many 15w6 setups back in the day with 1.25cu enclosures per sub and they pounded hard and went super low. Yes, in todays standards, that would be considered micro bass I guess. I was around in this hobby when the world record was just in the measly upper 160's........

Hi,
I am old school in subwoofer thinking. I guess I need to hear some of the newer (smaller) subs in optimized ported/vented enclosures. I havent been in this hobby for over 10 years and all I knew back in the day was the jl 18w6 was the beast for both sq and had good spl as well. I guess if I heard a DD setup like you suggested and it did want I wanted I would go that route, but its hard to make a decision sight unseen, thanks for the suggestion.

go with the old school C.V. Strokers then... flat cones with the little bullet in the middle of the dustcap (if it even had one)

The original strokers offered performance much different than the W6 line. I wont get into a debate about how good strokers can be made to sound, but I think its easy to say they wont sound like a W6.

yes, my question was is still any other subwoofers on the market that are comparable to the JL 18w6's in regards to the size of the enclosure it takes (around 1.75cu) and power handling (500w rms). I dont have room for 3.0cu+ and I dont have 1000+ watts. I have room for maybe 2cu max (I know 1.75 will work, measured it already), and I have about 400 watts to work with for the time being.

W6 woofers were made primarily for sound quality, however they got pretty loud too. They were very popular to be used with ppi art series amps and mb quart fronts and seemed to be always winning sq contests back in the 90's.
