Any 18" subs comparable to JL 18w6?

Hi,

I am looking for a compact enclosure 18" subwoofer, sealed enclosure and not larger size enclosure than 1.75cu (19"w x 19"h x 12.5"d) or I cannot fit the box in the car. Not sure if any other made over the years is like the 18w6, since I cant find a 18w6 I am looking for comparable subwoofers that have similar specs. If other comparable 18" subwoofers don't exist, I guess I am playing the waiting game until a 18w6 shows up for sale some year. I only have about 400 watts to work with and would like maximum cone area to use with that amount of low power and I know the 18w6 would work perfect in that application since it is a lower power 18" in comparison to the other beasts out in the market and is the only sub I know of that takes a super small box.

Thanks

Thanks, I emailed him about those subs. I am looking for 2 of them ultimately, thanks for the link. Still looking for ideas in case those are sold or he doesnt want to ship. Thanks

i have a few questions for you...

why are you stuck on an 18? and why are you stuck on a sealed box? and why jl?

the reason i ask this is because if you put a good 10 inch woofer in the right enclosure it will out perform that jl all day long. and if you get the right sub it will sound just as good, if not better. my recommendation for you is to try a DD 3510 in a ported enclosure. DD recommends only 1.5 cubes for this beast. you said you have 1.75 cubes to work with so it will be close to 1.5 after displacement of the sub and port(s). Tune it to your desired frequency and you will be very happy. it will get louder, lower, and sound better. it requires a bit more power so if you dont have the power to throw at it go with a 1510. i honestly dont think an 18 with 400 watts in a box that small will out perform a smaller sub ported.not trying to bash you, do what you want. i was just tryin to give you a few more options.

hope this helps,

Hi,

I am old school in subwoofer thinking. I guess I need to hear some of the newer (smaller) subs in optimized ported/vented enclosures. I havent been in this hobby for over 10 years and all I knew back in the day was the jl 18w6 was the beast for both sq and had good spl as well. I guess if I heard a DD setup like you suggested and it did want I wanted I would go that route, but its hard to make a decision sight unseen, thanks for the suggestion.

Does anyone know the impedance of the Mach5 MJ18 and if it would work fine in a 1.75 cu sealed box? I cant find any info except a bunch of vids on youtube, it looks like these subs pound, and dont require that much power.

I believe their 4ohm. Mach5audio.com.

I looked long and hard at the MJ 18 when I could not find a JL 18w6 a few years ago, they seem very similar, plus would be a good choice for a new sub instead on taking a chance on a sub thats prob at least 10 years old.

But, a smaller sub would really suprised you seriously. I was like you, grew up in that era that "bigger is better" but you can get so much output from small subs nowadays its scary.

Edit..Forgot the space requirements you were working with, a smaller driver would be best IMO.

First of all, what are you looking for? What kind of music do you listen to?

You're talking about a sealed enclosure and JL, two things that will short-circuit the brains of the bassheads here.

I mostly listen to either techno/trance/dance and mostly 1990's bass cd's.

I figured 1 18w6 on 400 watts would give me deep, loud, balanced, ground shaking bass since the woofer only takes up to 500watts rms.. I have seen a number of cars back in the 1990's with these subs and they pounded the living $hit out of things. I never forget the wall of (6) 18w6's powered off of 2 mmats 1 ohm class d amps (the original series), that was freakin loud of all living hell.

All I want is very low bass and great smooth sweep, I dont want any holes or bumps in the response. The 18w6 was designed for only sealed chambers.

I am in my 30's and I am not looking to be the loudest car in town (nor do I care), but I always wanted to own the 18w6 sub and never could afford one back in the 1990's, I had to resort to the original rocksuck phuckgate punch 12's, and smoked those off a MTX 2300 (original BBQ style heatsink version). when I was trying to impress a couple nasty biatches at a stop light and they had the last laugh... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
