i had some issues when viewing the site last night. afterward, i went ahead and shut the computer down after a couple strange pop ups. even though kaspersky is installed on this computer, it showed up some bs xp security 2011 crap. im pretty sure this is a virus i obtained from this site somehwere. its the only site i visited while it was on last night. i got kaspersky to reopen and im scanning now, so hopefully i can find something and fix it. anyone else had a problem?

I got the same virus the other day..... Figures it was this ********. You need to run rkill to shut it down, then there's an app the wipes it from the registry, then followup with malwarebytes. Normally I just re-format my HD, but I have too much movies/music/emails/etc. that I'd have to shuffle over to my other laptop.

****Edit****

Either that or we got it from downloading all that Brazilian fart ****... Those sites are pretty sketchy too.

Yeah, Im on here quite a bit as well. I only get problems from pop ups anyway, and you can just get NoScript for that.

Kaspersky probably won't pick it up. Get Malwarebytes. It's free, and it's good at getting rid of malware.

Ill try malware bytes. Its disabled direct internet and admin functions. Btw I wasn't in any brazilian threads. Classifieds and build logs are where I went. Thanks for the help guys. If it happens to anyone else give me a heads up.

I've been browsing the internet (and downloading torrents) completely unprotected since I got my new laptop (like a month ago) which includes coming here all the time and I'm still clean...

I got the same thing the other day. It disabled all of my privileges and wouldn't let me on the internet because of a sketchy "Vista Virus Scan".

I had to delete my entire user profile and create another. What a pain in the ass.

You need to run "rkill" to stop the trojan from preventing you opening malwarebytes or other removal tool. If the program doesn't allow you to download things you'll need to put it on a thumb drive or cd from another computer.

The "fart pron" thing was a joke....

Download Combofix

Rename it to c0mbofix, put on desktop

Run c0mbofix

Once it restarts, run MB

Virus removed. Works for 99% of viruses, other .9% boot into safe mode and run combofix in safemode then MB in normal mode //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Should be rare you need rkill with that route/method

On that note, I've never gotten a virus from CA

Use MB and chrome or mozilla, as well as doing updates, and you should be hard pressed to get viruses....

Heres a hint how to not get those. Use a different browser. Safari Chrome Firefox and IE9 are all less likely to get this then the older IE versions.
Who uses safari on windows?

Even on mac until relatively recently (like 6-8 months ago) safari blew, was arguably worse than IE

I'll admit now however if you're on mac that theres no reason to switch from safari

This brings up a question though, anyone tried the newer versions of firefox? They fix the nasty infamous memory leak yet?
