Another noob

What kind of HD do you have? I have an older 2.5" laptop Toshiba hardrive, and I have a IDE to USB adapter. Because mine is a 2.5", the power is provided in the 5V from the USB port. I'm thinking about getting this external one.

On that one (I'm not sure about yours) it has a 12V input. If yours is like that, and has a input like this, then you can wire it directly, and there is no need for an inverter.

Well I would think it would recognize you hd as a storage device and you right you might need some kind of programto run it. Im at work now and i think mine is a western digital so im not sure of the wiring possibilitys. I will have to check into the dc input that would be slick!
