Hey, I just joined this forum and was wondering if I could get some opinions, even though I'm sure this question is asked all the time. I tried some searching but couldn't find exact answers. I'm looking to do a budget system in my cherokee for around $300 to $400, and am thinking of two different paths.

One is to just get a head unit and four speakers. A buddy of mine told me to get some good MTX component speakers and a good head unit and it should sound good and be pretty cheap. I listen to rock and don't need a lot of bass, but I'm afraid I might be a little disappointed with this route.

Another route would be to get all cheaper stuff, but get a head unit/speakers/amp/sub setup. So far I've been looking at this stuff, but really don't know what I want for sure or whats good.

HU: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6306.html

Speakers Front: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=823

Speakers Rear: http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/1331794/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046/order/asc/order_by/sell_price

So what do you guys think? Are all head units of the same power and stuff pretty similar, so that I should just go be what I think looks the best?

Any input is appreciated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Cheap Pioneer HU, Refurbed Profile amp, Pioneer REV coax's, Assassin 10, Refurbed profile sub amp.

Ascendant is in McHenry, so local pick up maybe.

Where at in IL you located, I'm up by Six Flags?

Haha yeah I'm pretty sure it was some mastermind. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Thanks for the help caliboy.

Yeah I wasn't getting a whole lot of responses over at the other site, so I thought I'd try to get some second opinions at another site. My parents told me they'd buy me a HU for christmas, so thats why I'm trying to get this all figured out so fast. But so far, all your suggestions seem to be the best way to go, other than finding cheaper or slightly better stuff in other places on the web.

Unless anyone else has any other opinions, I'm still open to suggestions if anyone can prove californiaboy wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

And I live in Tinley Park, a south suburb of chicago. Mchenry is just a little too far away. Probably spend more on gas than what shipping would cost. Thanks for the heads up though.

system looks good 4 the money, you dont need rear speakers tho. maybe ditch them and get slightly better fronts? your also going to need $80 in wires n hookup stuff.

If I did upgrade, I might go to the DEH-P5800MP instead of the 4800. The DEH-P6800MP sounds good, but a little too much for what I want.

But the 5800 compared to the 4800, whats the difference? I was looking at the specs, and they seemed almost the same. Is the only difference being that the screen is a lot better, or is the 5800 a lot better sound wise, which is all I'm really going for. This is a beater DD, so looks take second to sound.
