another cherokee question from adio......

unless you plan on doing a lot of off-roading, get a WJ (99-04) Grand Cherokee.
hahahahah, my wife keeps tryna convince me to get a grand cherokee. i keep ignoring her. but because u guys said something i'll look deeper into it hahahahahahhahahaha!

Straight axles allow for more wheel articulation, which is usually a major plus for off roading. But independent suspension tends to handle better on the road. Straight axles generally use leaf springs, while independent suspensions use coil springs. This is why your cherokee felt stiffer. Straight axle designs are also much simpler and cheaper to lift.

thanks guys. i'm not doin any off roading..... at least not the kind you see on youtube videos. city snow and beaqch sand, thats it. maybe i'll shoot fot grand cherokee. v6 or v8?

You'll be fine. You can fit I think 30's at least with no lift at all, maybe even 31's with some minor trimming. Dont even mess with the v6's, they may get 2 or so mpg better than the v8 but have no power. I get 17 in the city and about 21 or so on the highway with the 4.7L v8

The 4.0 v6 is plenty powerful for daily driving & has a little pep, it can even tow light loads. The 4.7 v8 is a small v8, & really isn't that stout.

Besides that, the 4.7 is not anywhere near as reliable as the 4.0.....the Jeep 4.0 is **** near indestructable...I've seen numerous 4.7 WJ's w/ engine failure (dropped valves, blown head gaskets, rod bearings spun)

People usually want too much for the v8 too.

Most v8 come w/ the 247 4wd, which is all-time 4wd. I prefer the 242 that most 4.0 will have...it has 2wd, 4wd: part time, full time, & low.

IMO go for a 99-01 WJ Grand Cherokee 4.0 v6 242 selec-trac 4wd w/ 100-150k miles.

I was towing 16' car trailers with mine, I needed the v8 there for awhile. But yeah, the 4.0's are bulletproof, had one in my 97 and my cousin is still driving it with 240k on it.

On the 4wd systems I really dont have much preference, you get the same mpg if you was in 2wd or all time 4wd or 4 high so that really wasnt a big factor for me.

oh and its an inline 6:fyi:

yeahh....my neighbor had a '00 Laredo 4.0 w/ 400k miles on it. ****** had been replaced once or twice, but the valve covers hadn't been removed once on the motor.

If you do alot of towing or heavy towing the 4.0 isn't a good choice, it's just too much strain on it, plus the 4.7 has a stronger transmission.

My '00 Laredo is a 4.0 4wd w/ the factory tow kit (e-fan + mech fan, ***** cooler, beefier suspension) ...& it tows my small trailer w/ 4wheelers/motorcycles/etc with ease.

& w/ the 4wd.....I just prefer the 242 over the 247 because it's more flexible....it seems to be the more reliable of the two also.

Yeah, thats the sad part, the ****** can go at anytime no matter what. Im not gonna lie, I wish sometimes I could put mine in 2wd for playing in the snow, but if theres enough on the ground than 4wd drifting can be fun too:naughty:

Mine, at 120k miles, has a slight jerk to it shifting from 1st-2nd & the engine has a slightly rough idle. The front & rea seal, oil pan, & diff. are all wet looking covered in oil, but no leaks yet. But in the end it drives great & is very reliable.
