Another Amplifier Volatge ?

On ROE theres a input voltage calculator. you type in your rms watts and what ohm your running, and it calculates my input voltage for the amp. so 1000rms into 2 ohms is 44.7 volts.

On my HU a pionner dehp470mp, my preout voltage is 2.2v. On the amp a Kicker ZX 1000.1 has the gain numbered 1-11.

OK now heres my question. if your amps gain is supposed to match my hu preout voltage, whats that calculator for? is it a ballpark estimate? Im not sure which one to follow, when i try to use my dmm it only goes up to 38.7 and then starts dropping as i slowy turn it up, i cant get it to 44.7 volts.

Any insight on this?

weird i dont know about kicker amps but you shouldnt have a problem getting 45+ volts with the gain up i also dont understand why your volatage goes down when you turn it up i am baffled:confused:

well my ddm is a fluke, its not some knockoff. i have seen other dmms where you can set the voltage youre trying to read, but mine doesnt have a selectable volt setting, it just has v in dc and ac.

the voltage on the dmm will rise as i turn the gain knob up. once it hits about 38.7 it starts going back down. it will never read past that number, it just falls. my switched 12v wire shorted in my car, i cant find it so for now im using a jumper cable from my 12v battery connection to my remote on the amp, could that be why im getting screwy readings?

Using a jumper cable for the switched +12 wouldn't affect it, its actually better if anything, first thing I'd do is check and use a different dmm see if you get the same results. Only other possibility I could think of is your electrical can't handle it and is losing power as you get higher, causing the voltage the amp sees to drop well below 12 and not allowing it to put out rated power. That would be kind of strange though because 1000 watts isn't very much even on a stock electrical

yea, its stumping me. on my old rf 600.1 bd i never had a problem getting it to 40+ volts. well, im gonna have to find someone to put the 1/0 power wire on my alt because on my 04 cavy its at the bottom and im not going through all that. i did however run the 1/0 grounds for the engine compartment. i think it has a ****ing 90 amp alt on it too, so im sure thats why it wont reach full power, but 1000w shouldnt be too horrible on any stock, but you never know.

You should easily be able to make 1000 watts off a 90 amp alt, especially witha decent battery, I've gotten 1200 out of a 60 amp alt and a POS battery that sat at less than 11.5 volts normally (with bad voltage drops, but making power nonetheless) Check all your wires, and again, try measuring with a different dmm

ill try a different dmm. ill also have to find someone to put the **** alt positive wire on there in 1/0, i just dont want to take it to a mechanic.

thanks for your help Rashaddd, i appreciate it.
