A friend challenged me to build a large spl enclosure with no screws. Give it at least 1000w, 1 or 2 subs my choice. And not have it fall apart during burps. The bet is $100 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

notice the brad nailer. That and gorilla glue are all that will be holding the enclosure together.

decided to add some dynashield.

nope no screws here either.

starting to look like a box. notice the paint. Eventually I am going to put a plexi window beside the one 12" power hx2 that's going into it on the baffle. The white will reflect the green neon I will be using. And make the inside appear to glow. The end with the green paint will be the area of the slot port.

No i didn't screw up on the length of the side panels. They are exactly 1" So that the baffle fits perfectly flush and you don't see the exposed ends of the mdf //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'll post more pics as I progress.

Any bets on wether it will hold up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Nah....that's cheating man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I'm building this way to prove a point to my friend. Who is a nay sayer that owns one of the local shops. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

geez even if ur trying to just make a fun box u still make it look good. i love u //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

i think a brad-nailer is cheating myself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif that's a pretty sweet box just to prove a point. it will prolly hold with those cheater nails //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Woodworking magazines have done tests that prove edge glued wood panels are as strong as solid wood, without dowels biscuits or screws. That's with solid wood, being glued along the long grain. I dunno how the glue characteristics of MDF compare to that, but my guess is that if you've made tight fitting joints and clamped the parts properly you'll win your bet.

Nice work.

Thanks guys. I learned a while back. Good straight cuts, and a good urethane glue. Will produce seams with MDF, that will be stronger than wood itself. My friend is starting to worry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif . Still got a little bit of work to do. I'll take some more pictures. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah its looking good, I say it will hold. I say it would hold w/out the brad nailer. Does ur buddy know u used it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif . Well looks like ur prolly gonna be 100 bones richer.

R u finished yet? i built a box 2 days ago w/ liquid nails and a brad nailer, the brad nailer i think is cheating //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif cause i have built a couple boxes w/ glue and a brad nailer and there strong, never had a problem. Post some more pic's if ur done. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

you could always enforce it with another wooden angle, attached by glue, naturally. That won't be cheating, and mgiht have a lot more strength to it. (I hope I know what I'm talking about)

that is a nice ass looking box. and the progress is looking promising. even throw in the neon with plexi to tease him... great job!

keep us informed on how it turns out.

I'm almost done . Hopefully I can post some pics tomorrow. I too didn't want to use the brad nailer. But my friend told what I can use. So far be it for me to argue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif With my friends, if there is money on the line . You learn to be real specific //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
