Amps running hot

I've had my Alpine PDX1.1000 for a few months now. I've had it hooked up to two 12" Type R's for a while and everything was good at the time. Now I have it on two 12" Type X's. Everything sounds good, theres no clipping or distortion and I'm not burning up the coils or anything, but the amp is running kinda hot and it runs hotter on heavy bass songs. I'm just wondering why this might be happening.

that could be part of the prob. the subs are asking for more and ur amp is giving all it can so i would say that is a big issue. may ventilation but most likely my 1st guess

Are you pushing them harder than you were on the Type R's?
Not really. I'd say probably about the same, and these subs are meant to take a beating. But like I said, they're not clipping or distorting, and they're both wired correctly. Its just the amp thats running hot.

Amplifiers are not 100% efficient; they produce large amounts of heat in addition to amplifying your signal. If you push the amplifier harder, it will get hotter. If you can't handle how hot they are (mine used to get hot enough to burn you if you touch them - but without any ill effects) then wire a relay up to your deck's remote wire (on one side) and your 12v run for your amps (on the other side), then wire all of your remotes to the output on the relay - and also wire up a fan that can blow on the amps. I added a radio shack 120mm fan blowing across my amps - i mounted it directly between my sub amp and my mids/highs amp...it alone brought temperatures down from excessively hot to warm/easy to touch without discomfort unless it's a super hot day and i run them at max volume for an hour or more....then they still heat up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Short version, get a relay, wire it to your remote wire, wire all of your amps remotes to the output of the relay - plus a new fan that blows on your amps. When you turn on the deck, it'll flip the relay...and the relay will activate the fan and turn on your amps.

Yeah, if thats for sure is the issue then I'll just take it easy on them for now until I get another PDX1.1000 to run one amp to each sub.

The subs are asking for more? Do subs request power? I was unaware that the sub-amp relationship worked like that...
