Amps going into protection mode

SWINE FLU!!!!
this is just a general question...

I'm running an Orion 600D amp with 1 12'' sub. my normal listening volume is around 30, if i really want bass i turn it to around 40. But everynow and then i really want to feel it, so i'll turn it up to like 45. One time i listened to like two whole songs at 45 or above, and the sub cut out.

the question is, if i'm listening to it at 40 for too long, will it eventually go into protection? or can it handle 40 as a constant volume?

just asking for a little bit of knowledge..

When an Amp goes in to protection mode, the first thing I think of is heat. Do you have enough air moving around the amp? Or is it stuffed somewhere in the trunk?

Under/over voltage is the next problem to check for. You will need a multimeter at the amp and check for a constant 14.4 volts when the engine is running. If it drops to low or runs to high, that could trip the circuit too.

And then check your speaker wires for a short. But I suspect this is the least likely problem.
