Amp ratings at normal volume (in my experience)
Example 1: Legacy LA120 240 watt amplifier
Take the rated power:
Divide by the number of speaker outs(2): 120watts
Divide by half for nominal power: 60watts
Divide by Ohms(4) : 15watts
Divide for amp efficiency, which will NEVER be 100%, in this case, around 70%: 10.5watts!
OMG You never saw that coming!! I tested this peticular amp, and it did around 12 watts.
Example 2: Power Acoustik ov2 1200
Add the numbers on the fuses and multiply by 10 (600)
divide by number of channels(2): 300
Divide by 2 for nominal power: 150watts!
At normal volume, and 65% gain mine does around 60 watts per channel. If I give it hell, it does 474.6 per channel, which is 175 watts higher than advertised. This was tested with a multimeter, not load resistors and sinewaves, don't quote me.
Never assume just because you have a 4000 watt amplifier that you're getting 4000 watts. It's all relative.
