Amplifier with No Fusing?

Some company's require that you fuse the amplifier your self, it cuts the cost of the amplifier a little especially with very high output ones.

Really, the fuses in the amp are redundant to the main fuse at the battery, or any fuse blocks prior to the amp. My Xtant doesn't have any fuses either, but I have a 60amp fuse 4" from the battery, and a fuse block at the kick panel, and really the fuse block at the kick is not needed except it gives an easy location to tap in my xmradio tuner and ipod controller for power.

some amps have clamping or other circuitry that prevents the flow of current if it would be too high. kinda like a fuse that people can't change.

the battery must be fused in case the wire shorts before the amp.

The reason why many high-output amplifiers do not have fuses built into them is not really because of manufactoring cost. It's more for design/output than anything else.

If anyone has an amp that has fuses on it, take a look at the internal of the amp and you'll notice that the fuse will have a blade connected to the circuit board. The combination between the blade and the fuse itself will increase resistance (after all, the current has to pass through the tiny thin blade). The built-in fuse design can decrease the output voltage by 1v, which is something to cry about //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

My MB Quart Q-series (MBQ's highest line) are not cheap amps at all. Very high quality and has ample amount of power. It requires an external fuse.

Correct, believe me when your working on a 1000+ watt amp cost isn't an issue. The main reason you don't have fuses is because of lack of space on the board layout to put them because you need so many 40's to get to the right fusing. Second, anything over 3 fuses just looks horrible. That's the main two reason the 20.1 doesn't have fuses.

Can you imagine how 8 or 10 40 amp fuses would look if it would fit! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Not good
