Amp recommendation: 1ohm stable 800-1000w rms for $200

I have 2 JL Audio 10w6v2's in a sealed inclosure (they want 400w rms each) that I need to drive. I recently purchased an older Lanzar Optidrive SL800D off ebay that was DOA. I'm shipping it back and am in the market for another amp now.

I'm thinking about a directed audio 1100D or 1500D from Ikesound...but I've heard some bad things about Ikesound.

Any other recommendations? I dont want to spend more than $200...and would prefer to spend less.

Amp has to be 1ohm stable as my JL's are 4 ohm DVC.

Thanks in advance.

Directed or viper seem like good options.

You might also look into the 1000w 1 ohm Hifonics amps. Not the greatest reviews in the world, but the price is right, and the power should be within your range.

Also - you may be down on Lanzar at the moment, but the new Opti's are a notch better than the old SL's IMO and I think you could find a 1400D in your price range.

I think the the Vipers are out of stock on Ikesound. Is it better then the directed audio? Also, what about JBL PowerValve BP-1200.1? I hear these are ok...

You know, the Lanzar worked for a couple days..but sounded awful. No punch...real deep bass however..but very muddy.

Viper and Directed are attached at the hip. The ~1000w at 1 ohm amps probably use the same, or at least similar boards.

Check out the Orion 1200D too - that thing is beautiful, and the refurb is a bargain -- another Directed-owned brand.

Strange about your SL800 - Zed continually puts out some of the better 2 and 4 channel amps on the market but just can't get it right on a class D.

N2, quick question for you...

The SL amp did work for a bit...and it really seemed to draw alot of current while it worked. (lights dimmed). Is that becuase it was an older amp and newer amps are more efficient?

Give me your recommendation of all the mentioned amps...and add in a Precision Power PCX-2200 into the equation. I hear so many good things about the Orions...

Final question: is it better to run 4 ohms than 1 ohm if I can? The PP amp will do 800 at 4 ohm. I hear that you get better SQ running at higher ohms. Maybe thats why the Lanzar sounded so bad...I was running it at a 1 ohm load for 2 speakers.... Hmmm.....

no way the thd between an 800w class D and 800 watt a/b would be a factor. I think you had a defective amp, and any comparison of it to whatever would be unfair IMO. The fact that it made your lights dim...again - it's a defective amp so you really can't make an apples to apples comparison.

FWIW - I'm running a Lanzar class D opti at 2 ohms (700 rated watts) along with a 500w a/b with almost no dimming issueson a 110A alt.

As far as my opinion on an amp - that Orion 1200d is one sweet looking amp for not much more than $200, but $110 + s/h for the Directed 1100D would be a hard deal to pass up.

Do you think there's much of a difference in sound between the Orion and the Directed Audio 1100D?
