Transformer noise perhaps...

Some transformers tend to make noise when it is freezing or below outside.

It's probably just got some dirt in the gears. Just make sure it's on and when you hear the noise... submerge your amp into water. This will clean the dirt out and it will stop the whine.

i had a RF bd1500 and it did the same thing when it was cold and when it had low voltage

if your brutus was getting even more than slightly warm u had serious electrical issues or the amp was bad they never get hot.
