Amplifier Problem

I have a Clarion Xr2110, and i only had it working for about 3 seconds before it completely died. The protect light came on so i shut the truck off. Then when i restarted the truck, the protect light wasnt on anymore but the amps didnt power my subs. Now the Amp makes a "Popping" noise when its turned on. When hooked up to speakers you can only hear static. Is this problem fixable? Or should i just buy a new amp? I can post pictures of the inside if needed.

Is it fixable? Most likely yes but unless you know your way around amp repair you might not have much luck. Double check all wiring first. Check your subs as well. If one failed for whatever reason it could be causing the amp to shutdown or it may have caused the amp to fail. Was there any magic smoke?

the popping noise isnt normal. sounds as if you have some issues inside the amp. bad ground is not likely, but before you spend the money to repair it, it would be be good idea to check all voltages of power wires to ensure they are @ proper voltage.use a digital multi meter set to volts dc to check if you are achieving 12 volts or higher.

if your amp is fried(and you wanna fix it yourself), i would take a trip to diyaudio.com. post your issues in the car audio section. there are some really smart people there who can help you out.

Like i said, I took the amp to a tech at a local store so its definitely not cause of a connection problem. Il take some pics and put them on here hopefully before tomorrow.

okay, what did the tech do? just listen to what you said, and said "hey this is not a connection problem, but just so you know i fix amps."

i agree this may not be a connection problem, but why go through the headache of trying to fix it, when you can eliminate all other possibilities?

the part that concerns me is the popping sound. i dont know what this could be, but when mine blew output mosfets it made a hissing type sound with excessive amperage draw.

to me, it sounds more rca-related. more specifically, grounding issue. tripple check that you are getting good ground, and that the rcas aren't pinched, half- unplugged, or just bad. unplug them while it is on and see what happens. if you have rca to 3.5mm (headphone jack) cable, it helps rule that out. if the amp shuts down or goes into protect when you unplug the rcas, then it is most definately a bad ground.
