amplifier power

i'm currently running a 0 gauge to my trunk to a block and then 4 gauge kolossus kable (so its more like 3 gauge) about 2 feet to my us amps MD2. the md2 has a fuse rating of 120A and my question is i'm using a 100A fuse on my block and it never blows, even at full volume. the gain is only halfway up, if i turn it up anymore, it doesn't get louder than it already is so i just left it there. since my fuse isn't blowing, does this mean i'm not actually getting the 1500 watts?

Technically 100 watts should = 10 amps of draw. Not in every case becuase there a few veriables to keep in mind.

1. what kind of amp?

2. big three upgrades?

3. fuses can exceed there thermally ratings, but the tolerance levels are about 2%, so if your running a 100 amp fuse up front and your pulling 105 amps it may not blow at least for short periods of time.

4. what impeadance are you running your amp at?

US Amps Merlin MD2 like I stated. 1500 x 1. Ran at one ohm. Big 3? Yes. I'm running a 100A fuse at the distro block, not at the front.

heh alright the point kinda floating away.. 1/0 front to back, yes, to the distribution block......... everythings wired correctly, i have a 300a fuse under the hood 18 inches from the battery. im just wondering since my 100A fuse isn't blowing, am i not getting the rated power from my md2?

O.k. I think I understand why, The MD2 is a class d amp and although the sheet that comes with it says max ampdraw 150 or 180(depending on which model), it may still put out the 1500 watts and not draw 150 amps to do it. Becuase of how the circuitry is designed. Unlike my Usamps which are class ab. My amps will definitly draw the full amprage when I give them the correct impeadence and correct power. Class D's are much more efficient at converting battery power becuase of there powersupplys.

Hope this helps.

On music your amp isnt producting the full 1500 watts for more then a very, very short time. Your 100a fuse can actually handle ~ 3 times that for a short amount of time. This should explain that even though your pumping 1500rms its not constant and the fuse is able to handle it.

Try pumping a few test tones through it at full tilt...I bet the fuse wont last long.

Due to the very dynamic nature of music, and the fact that music isn't recorded at a constant level of 0db...you're very rarily seeing an actual power output of 1500w. Realistically probably closer to an average power output of around 30% of that figure.

And the times that the amplifier is actually putting out close to full power (or drawing over 100A), it's for such brief periods of time that the fuse does not blow.

okay, if the 'the gain halfway up' doesn't make sense, then turning the gain "up" more due to a 2v preout shouldn't make sense. i am using 'gain halfway up' in a sense that it is turned about halfway because thats what the fuk i set it to, not cause i think its a volume knob, you shitfuk. i guess if you use the word 'up' with 'gain' its automatically an indication that you dont know shit about tuning amplifiers? right thch? right.. anyways i hope you made yourself feel better by saying all that, i dont think anyone was confused about whether i set my gains correctly. so basically you just changed the topic in order to boost your self esteem and cement your knowledge of setting gains with different HU's, way to go buddy. oh and for the edit, its great how you babble on about irrelevant information, then you subtly imply i am a high school kid. i set my gains at 25/40, thanks for asking.

yes. how very irrelevent. and you still have no clue what i was talking about.

as for implying you are a high school kid, meh, whatever. in _car_ audio the target audience is highschool/college kids, an audience which is both inexperienced and boastful. it is likely that, if you've seen these setups and the owners, you would find that they often have that gain cranked issue.

since you can't understand the info (as proven by your reply), and because you are ungrateful, I'll just add you to my ignore list to prevent myself from accidently helping you in the future. no need to start any form of argument or such.

i feel sorry for you man. just because i didn't need an explanation of how gain control works doesn't mean you have to get bitter. if you misinterpreted the question and immediately jumped in thinking you could show off your knowledge, thats fine with me. i dont think i ever said anything about cranking my gain up or whether i set it correctly, so i really dont know why youre so bitter.
