Amplifier not working

My subwoofer is not playing whatsoever. The amplifier light shows that the amp is being turned on, but I do not hear the the amp itself switch on like I usually do. Also, there is something rolling around inside of the amplifier itself. In cases where the sub is not playing I would usually say its wired wrong or the sub is blown, but I know both of these to not be true. So my questions are what do you think is rolling around inside of the amp? could it be the reason power isn't being sent to the sub? do you think the amp is blown? any other suggestions on what the problem maybe?

Sounds like something came loose inside the amp. I would like to see a few pics also.

What amp is it?

And yes if that cap is missing that could cause it not to work for sure. Hard to say with out hooking it up and running diagnostics on the rest of it to see what else got damaged.

That is one of the reasons it does not work correctly. You are going to need it repaired because i bet it took out more parts when that cap came off the board.

Do you want to sell it non working ? I might buy it.

I see nothing else that appears damaged or loose. My unle is an electrician he may be able to inspect it. If possible though I would like to repair the cap myself, how would I go about doing it.

i have a us amps xt2000d setting in front of me with the same exact problem.....

it blew all 4 of the capacitors on the 12 volt side of the transformer. it also melted all the solder off the transformers legs on the 12 volt side that go into the board ....

i replaced all 4 caps, and soldered the transformer legs back into the board. the amp powers up now and has good sound..

i think the caps are bad from the factory or something.. they were all bulged out real bad, and showed a dead short on my meter...???

It does not mean anything is wrong when you don't see a burn mark. Electronic parts can still blow and look perfectly fine.

That I understand. I was just simply stating from my untrained eye nothing seemd damaged externally or loose. But as I have already stated I have never worked with amps before and my opinion is null. But I would like to replace the cap myself if I can, how should I go about doing so.

Take the amp completely apart so the PCB can be worked on. Then flip over the board and desolder the old capacitor leads off the board and solder in a new cap that is the exact same values. I would get someone to check out the rest of the amp with a DMM and a oscilloscope to see if there are anymore problems before you try to power it up.

radio shack has replacement capacitors ... they are 35 volt 1000uf caps.

just make sure you put them in the board just like they came out.. they have a negative and a positive leads on the bottom.. the black stripe running up the side of the cap is the ground...
