Is there anyway I could hook my amp up in the house to my stereo? I know I need some kind of converter to convert 120v to 12v right? Is there something like that that I could use for this purpose?
yes, but they are more expensive than just buying an amp that can push a sub that already uses 120v. maybe not at the same wattage, but they are expenisve.
okay, that's all i needed to know. i just took my subs outta my car cause im trying to sell it and was gunna see if it was cheap or expensive... i think i'll pass on my idea hehe, ty.
You're probably going to end up looking at about $100 to get a converter to handle running a sub amp. I have a 10 amp converter that I had used a few years back and when I had it hooked up to my 360 watt amp the subs would cut out at higher volumes (because the amp wasn't getting enough power). If you really want to be difficult, you can put a stiffening capacitor on it to prevent cutting out. OR you could spend about $125 bucks or so and get yourself a home subwoofer amp that's made for home subwoofers (and they work great- got 2 for my brother's old car subs) from Parts Express at http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&SO=2&&DID=7&CATID=43&ObjectGroup_ID=505
