I picked up a Clarion 7 Band Graphic Equalizer 74EQ. I have a pretty good idea of what they do i just don't know the 30Hz and the 40Hz, 200 and 400.... There is also 1KHz and 3 and 14. I know that these are frequencies but i don't know which is what. If that makes any sense . I looked around for some instructions for it but couldn't find any. Could somebody help me out?

well i dont no the specifics but.................play with it a little...test each nob and see what you notice different in the sound....btw do you get any interference(noise) from the eq since putting it in...im askin cause im thinken of buying one....what do you think of it?

Well, generally anything under 70hz is subbass, 70hz-~300hz is midbass, 300hz-~4000hz is midrange, and anything over 4000hz is, for lack of a better word, treble.

Keep in mind that an EQ should be used to lower peaks, not raise valleys. This means that you shouldn't use it too boost frequencies (no more than 2-3db), but instead to lower the overbearing frequencies. Boost = clipping = not good.

And no amount of EQ'ing is going to fix cancellation problems. You should play with the phasing of each speaker before using an EQ.

sbcaprice305 I haven't got it istalled yet so i couldn't tell you

squeak9798 thanks for the info, which brings some more questions to mind. on top of the crossover there is High Pass Filter... on or off and then Subwoofer St or mono. What is the High Pass filter and if ur sub is mono you want the switch to mono right? There is also a FREQ switch from 120, 80, 90. ???

What is the High Pass filter
Well, a highpass filter attenuates the frequencies below a selected frequency, so that your speakers aren't playing very much bass. Say you set it at 120hz, then all the frequencies below 120hz will be attenuated at a certain slope (specified in decibels per octave [db/oct])

and if ur sub is mono you want the switch to mono right?
Yeah, just set it to mono. You can't hear bass in stereo anyways

There is also a FREQ switch from 120, 80, 90. ???
That would be the crossover frequency for the highpass filter.

Ok, lets see if i've got this straight. If i hook this up will i be able to lower the bass to my smaller speakers without taking away from my subs. There is also a subwoofer level and a fader. What i'm hoping to do is get more volume out of my smaller speakers but when ever i turn it up depending on the song i get distortion. For the crossover frequency that is like being to take out the bass or just having the high frequency.

By turning on the highpass filter, yes.

The highpass should help that some //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Right, you'll be quieting all the frequencies below the frequency you select to be the crossover point
