amplifier help

hi,

if you look below in my signature, I got a pair of 260w Pioneer speakers. in my car, they go in the side panel next to the back seats. I was wondering, since my unit only kicks out 52w max per channel, if I should power these by amp. If so, are there any such thing as like a mini amp that would fit in the wall with the amp? I would need something like a 200x1 or 250x1 amp. to power each speakers, I would need 2 of them. I'm looking on eBay, but I can't find anything small that would fit in the hole where each speaker goes in. If you need a picture of what I'm talking about, I'll have to wait until I get my car back from the mechanic's. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Are you looking for an amp that will fit behind the door panel? If so, I doubt you will fine one unless you have a shit load of clearance back there... The amp could be mounted under a seat, no big deal.
no. my car, the eagle talon, is a 2 door, and the rear speakers, which are mounted in the wall, under the rear side windows, next to each side of the back seat (only seats 2 in the back), are the Pioneer 6.5" 260w Max, 50 RMS. I want to buy 2 seperate amps, one for each speaker... with a 200x1 or 250x1 max channel at 4 ohms. don't want more, or I risk blowing the speakers up. 250 may even been too much for this. Let me know, thanks!

Theres nothing we can suggest without dimensions of that space. And by the way, max rating means NOTHING. Looks at RMS ratings only.

could someone give me a tip about choosing the right amp? I've decided against going with an amp for the rear speakers, however I have 2 6x9 speakers I'd like to buy/create an enclosure for and to install them in my trunk. 100w RMS and 300w peak (although you said that peak/max doesn't matter). You said to only look at RMS... does that apply for both the speakers and the amp to match them? if so, should I get an equal rms rating the speakers have for one channel on an amp? or should i go less? Someone please give me some tips, The most I've ever done was install a CD Player, and this car, I'm putting in an Equalizer which I got help with, and I want to put in these 6x9 speakers, and maybe a sub if I feel like it. thanks! Thanks a lot!

I would reccomend you do not buy 6x9's for a trunk, that is pointless. If any kind of speaker should be in the trunk, it should be a subwoofer. 6x9's are too musical to be inside of a trunk, but 6x9's are crap speakers anyway.

As for the amp and speaker wattage ratings, yes, try to match amps with the speakers RMS rating. MAX ratings are normally incorrect and mean nothing. You can normally give a speaker more than its RMS rating, depending on the speaker, but most can go at least 100w more without being harmed. You could always get an amp with too much power, and just turn the gain down to match the output you need (read the gain setting tutorial at the top of this forum.)

what happened was that if you were to look at my back seat, you would think it would be 6x9 speakers. Crutchfield.com says that the best match is 6x9. However, when I bought these 6x9 speakers for my car about a month ago (shortly after I bought the car), it turns out that my car is some sort of special or weird edition of the Eagle Talon that it was 6.5" rather than 6x9". So, instead of just letting the speakers sit in my room, I thought I'd put them in the trunk using 6x9 enclosures and an amp. I know i could always sell them on eBay, but that's where I got them in the first place and I'm not sure I could make a profit.

As for subwoofers, I'm getting over the whole subwoofer thing... I don't feel the need for heavy loud bass anymore as I did when I was in high school... Once in a while I do, but not often enough to make me wanna buy a subwoofer. Also, I need my trunk space. Can't afford the trunk space loss. Thanks for your tips! I may still go with putting the 6x9 speakers in the trunk, just to see how it turns out.
