amp wont push?

hey guys i have a mtx TE801D amp pushing two 10 inch mtx 7500's, im running 4 gauge wiring and the subs are 4 ohms. alot of times when i get into the car my amp will turn on but wont put any power into the subs.!

any ideas what might be wrong?

well alot of times i get into the truck and it works fine. The amp is usually red but that doesn't neccesarily mean its in protect mode, i beleive there a little spectrum of light that the amp turns when it pushes out different amounts of power. RCAs in the amp are pushed in though.

Will it play at times while driving and then start to fade out or turn off?

It's possible you have a ground issue or your ground is loose. How do you have your amp ground?

well im not sure about the ground becausae i had it installed at circuit city, but yeah subs will go on and off occasionally.
Take it back and have them fix it?

When you have a poor or loose ground when a high current demand occurs the ground can be too weak and you lose your ground, causing your amp to act funny or shut off. But at lower volumes the ground can seem just fine because you don't have the huge demand.

Considering a big chain shop installed it, I wouldn't be surprised if they did a crappy job on the ground.

kk so today i decided to move the bass on my headunit from -1 to +2, and it didnt seem to turn off today. could it be im underpowering my amp too much?

While you're on the topic, is the bolt that attaches the backseat to the chassis a horrible place to ground the amp? I scraped off all the paint and non-strip gunk and what not and made sure it was nice and tight, but I'm also getting the weak sound. Thanks!

Usually it's not the best place but it can work. Since you seem to be having issues I would try another location. I myself used a streetwires grounding block and placed it in my spare wheel well at a spot where I could access it from behind so I could lock nut it in place.

It could also be your wiring. How much RMS is your amp pushing and what size power/ground are you using? Also what is your stock alt?

Underpowering? As in your electrical system can't handle the demand of the amp? It's possible, but I doubt it with a rated 800RMS at 2 ohm for your amp.
