Amp went into protect...Help

Bring our TROOPS HOME!!!!

Was working fine (its been installed a while) all of a sudden bass went off, looked at the amp and the protect light was on, I took it out put it in my car it worked fine so did the sub. I am guessing it maybe the cables. Where should I start checking....
