Amp trashed?

Ok, I got a free RF 2002 amp and a 10in RF punch sub. My amp has been going to its fail safe mode and shutting itself down when it gets to hot outside, thats fine w/e. however one day it did its usual cut in cut out deal again so i turned my deck off, however the next day, a nice cool morning, i turned the car on and I had no bass. The light on my amp is on, the sub is functional, all connections are solid, all cords are wear free, and the ground is in place. Also all the fuses are good but i still have no bass. I have a Pioneer DEH-9 head unit and i just can't figure out what the problem is. Can anyone help or am I screwed?

check continuity at the power and ground wires .also check the remote wire for power .

That's all good, like i said, when i power the deck on and off the amp does the same, are my outputs fried or something? I'm new to this so...

well.. I'm buyin a new setup anyways, if it is fried, what caused it? Just so I know what not to do, also I've got two kenwood 12in subs that I got for 130$ what would be a good amp to get for those thats not too expensive (~$150)

Just look in the classifieds and get aamp that does like 500 Watts.

what to do to prevent it? well, for starters, "protect" mode is the last line of defense during an already damaging condition. fuses are just fire prevention. anyways, long story short- when an amp enters protect, do what you can to prevent the condition that caused it, rather than just waiting for it to cycle and do it again...

Bad ground, inadequate and/or improperly installed wiring, running the amp below rated impedance, ....all could cause this. You are going to have to find out what caused your current setup to fail before putting in new gear, or you will be throwing away money. Odds are, if you don't know what you're doing, and the gear worked at first, it's not the equipment's fault, regardless of it's age.
