Amp To Power A Single JL 13TW5-3

Housed in aprox .85 sealed enclosure. Just one but I want to make sure it has all the power it needs to really pound.

I currently have a JBL 300.1. It was kind of a cheap amp so I wouldn't mind upgrading to something better.

The amp will be mounted in a custom MDF rack adjacent to the Sub enclosure so I'd prefer something that looked decent yet clean.

I've read that people who have these JL W5 drivers are using 500.1 and 1000.2 amps.

I'm a noob so I'd really appreciate any advice, pics or comments.

500w should be more than enough for that sub. JL 500/1 or Alpine PDX 600.1 or something along those lines would probably suit it well.

x2. good amps to pair with that woofer. even an arc audio KAR 900.1 is a great amp that can be found for a good price.

i was running a 1000/1v2 to the pair i just let go of

Both of these amps seem expensive. I don't know. Maybe they seem that way to me because I've never considered spending this much money on an amp before.

Couple more noob questions;

Why couldn't I just buy another cheap JBL CS300.1?

Couldn't I run two of them to a single woofer?

What would be the advantage to buying one amp as opposed to using two smaller amps with the same sum of energy?

You really should just use a single amp. Besides the power consumption you will run into gain balancing issues. Some amps can be strapped together to make more power, but I do not think that amp will do it.

I'm not saying it isn't possible, it just wouldn't work l ike a single amp.

How much do you want to spend? Something always shows up in the classifieds.

How does the sub sound though? Are you liking it? Obviously your not happy with the output but what about the sound?

DO NOT DO THAT

JL is expensive because of the quality. there are far cheaper out there that do moer power.

the thing with JL amps is they do power from 1.5-4ohms

no other amp will do that

the tech is a lot better than most also.

if you want to spend a little less look for a mono amp that does

600-750 at 1ohm

that way you will see around 500 or so at 1.5 ohms

I have not purchased the sub yet. It's really really **** expensive. I can't find it retail for under $500 to save my life.

No matter what I need more power. I'm not spending that much on a state of the art subwoofer only to experiance 1/3 of its potential.

I'm really limited on space. To get the results I want I really don't see that I have another option besides the 13TW5 sub.

The Amps mentioned above, specifically the JL and Alpine units are about $50-$100 bucks out of my price range. They are rated well and seem to satisfy the people who own them. I'll probably wait for Black Friday and see what kind of deals I can get on the Alpine amp. It just looks cooler!

I've never been one to buy to much in the way of used equipment. I prefer to buy new at a really low price. I know there are many great and honest people on here and on eBay. However, I've been burned 3 times buying used electronics and PC stuff online. There seems to be a scam post every single day.

Come to think of it I think the JL amp was cheaper. So I'll get more power from the JL 500.1 than the Alpine PDX 600.1?

All good decisions. If you like new, then by all means stick with your comfort zone. There are tons of slim line subs though. You don't have to pay the price of the TW5. Search slim line and you will find all different types and price ranges.
