Okay well that makes sense. I've run subs for kicks on half the recommended continuous power to the same result you speak of (minimal excursion). I was simply trying to give a recommendation based on the assumption that the thread creator had not purchased an amplifier yet and was really looking to get full potential from his sub drivers.

Your recommendation was fine.

RMS is a power limit over a long period of time. Constant without breaks. It's by no means how much power you should use because we don't abuse them anywhere close to that. Take into account a 1200 is never producing 1200 watts also.
