Amp/Sub Combo Has Me Very Distressed, Need Input

Ok, so I am running a Zed Audio Leviathan II and have the 5+6 channels on my 12" iDMax. It is in a sealed box, optimal size. Well it was hitting pretty good, I understand it is somewhat underpowered, but the sub is very efficient. Well I went to check my gains, etc. and noticed that the clip lights were flashing on hard hits. So I went ahead and lowered the gain until the clipping stopped. Well of course the non-clip power is very clean, but the sub just doesnt hit the same anymore. So, if this is how loud it has to be, to keep the amp/sub safe, I need to switch my system up. I actually have bought another 12, was gonna run it on the 3+4 channels, but like I said, I need more bump at the current gain level. And its not like I moved the gain a whole bunch, maybe 1/8 turn or so... Well, now I am pretty frustrated, but am thinking of running 2 10s or 4 8s in a ported box. Figure this will still keep it somewhat clean, since I do like Sound Quality, but will give me much more SPL. Would this be the right way to go? Maybe run some 400-600 watt rms subs, 1 on the 5+6 channels, and 1 on the 3+4 channels. This should yield higher SPL, since the subs will be better under control and flex more, no? Was thinking some SA-8s, SSA DCON 10, SoundSplinter, IA Lethal Injection 10, or Audioque 2.5 (I figure is more SPL oriented)

Sorry so long, just wanna give as much details as possible. I have 1200 watts running to my boys 2 10" RE Audio SE's in a sealed box I built, and man they beat hard. So I just want to out do him, and out do him by a lot, if possible. Or do I need to switch up the amp? I love my Leviathan II, it runs my whole system. And for now, that is exactly what I am looking for, the SQ is amazing too! But this clipping issue ***** :/

I will be looking to trade my beautiful iDMax's or sell them too...

Thanks guys. I will debate on going ported on the 1 12, since I wont have room to port 2. Or I will maybe just go ahead and run 4 10s sealed. Probably would be smart to run some SPL amps, rather than a SQ amp, but I cant beat the efficiency.
