Amp starting in protect. :(

**** just took it to a BestBuy and the guy who's been working in car audio for years... worked at Car Toys prior, said he did everything and it has to be something wrong with the amp.

I told him how I tried to wire my power and ground cable. I didn't use a fuse for the power, he said that may have done it. He said if I opened the amp that I will probably see black marks. But he told me not to do it b/c it voids any warranties. So I'm called audioque and left a message.

Sub: SSA Icon 15

the aq has onboard fuses so no he is not even near correct. Fusing or not fusing your power wire had nothing to do with the issue at hand.

Hmm. None of the fuses are blown so he was saying there has to be a fuse inside the amp that is blown or something.

WTH why is it not going in power mode, instead of protect? Would taking a video of my sub/amp and posting it help?

do it go in protect i few seconds after it come on or right when u turn it on. the power supply or output section is most likely gone

nope sry no fuse inside the amp if the onboard fuse did not blow then there is a issue with the amp somewhere else. Should be coverd so just wait for aq to get back with u.

Alright I'll wait for AQ to call me back.

Basically what happens when I start the car is that the protect goes on, then the green light power goes on, then it goes back into protect and it stays in protect. All in less than a second.

sounds like the power supply cant power up.

did you try with the sub unhooked, just power/ground/remote? also, do you have a dmm to check voltage at the terminals?

When you say sub unhooked... that means the + and - cords are not plugged in correct? I have not, I will try that though. The guy at bestbuy checked voltage, he scrapped the paint in my car and grounded it to somewhere else. It consistently read 12, rather than before which read 10 and then dropped to 6-7.

in that case, definately try it with the rcas unhooked. i bet those are cooked, from the amp trying to ground through them. there may also be damage to the amp already, too. start there, though.
