amp shuts off at high bass hit

Yea u r the # 1 loser for telling the man its a faulty amp, haha, get a better power supply dog,(lower gauge wire, bigger alt), and remeber the golden rule of amplifier connection....CHECK THE GROUND....always do that b4 u ask any questions...

i would call that scaring people like saying ur guilty b4 u even are tried for ur hearing.. I mean how would it feel if they threw you in jail and then had ur trial..

i'll probably go with another battery or another alt, cause i read somewhere that there aren't that many 4-cylinder alts that can support an amp.

isn't 4 gauge wire big enough....the ground is on the frame somewhere around the rear strut (my dad's the one that did it and he's a mechanic, he should know where to ground it.) but i do agree it's my battery cause i have a bad memory and i forget to turn off my lights sometimes....lol

i think i have decided it's the power supply...

i can do a better job of explaining it...here we go...

i have the amp set on low pass filter and L-CHX and R-CHX all the way down (i dunno what they do, but i have them turned down) i have the bass boost all the way up. only one sub hooked up to it

ok i'm listening to Blink 182 - Feeling this....when it goes in the chorus booooooom (my amp makes it through the first hit) then in the middle of the chorus boooooooom (my amp makes through the second hit)....ok it's doing fine and then when it goes in the chorus again it goes boo and shuts off, and then doesn't even try to go through the second hit....i'm no genius but i think my battery isn't charging in enough time....

what other solution is there?

get a capacitor?

get a new alternator?

get a new battery?

please let me know, the battery and alt would be no problem, my dad can get them cheap....but the capacitor is another story...

i can't take listening to this anymore. Aren't you only trying to run a 600 watt amp? Since its a jensen its probly about 550 if you're lucky, and unless your car is real old your alt should have no problems whatsoever running it. It might be your power wire, but 8ga would work and 4ga would be ideal. I think the biggest reason you are having problems is either your gain is set too high, or your making your amp see a lower ohm load than it can handle. Also if your bassboost is all the way up that is acutally waht is probably causing it, not to mention anhilating your sub.

if it is only a 600 watt amp 8g is plenty, for battery though go optima deep cycle (the one with the yellow top)
There is no reason to upgrade the battery, the load is on the alternator anyway, different batteries are just more durable.

i say get a new alt first, because if your alt is say 60amps and the amp pulls 80 or whateva getting a new battery will just be like doing nothing because if the alt doesn't charge the battery in time ur gonna have the same problem..

ok dont get a new alt get it rewound to a higher amp.

(i apologize if i am getting on your nerves)

it is a 4 gauge wire...wht the hell is gain? i'm stupid about this stuff, you don't understand...

the car is an 88 ford escort, i dunno if it still has the stock alt. we never really had to worry about that....

gain is an adjustment on the side or back of your amp generally you need a really small screw driver to adjust it. The gain is what is telling the amp how hard to work. It never hurts to adjust the gain, but I would agree that it is good place to start if the amp was overheating and turning off, but from what you have said, it does not sound as if the amp is overheating

nope it's not overheating, it's like it's reseting...

lol maybe the amp is greedy and doesn't wanna give all 600 watts to my subs....

sorry for bothering you guys, i'll see what i can do to figure it out...if there are any suggestions on what to do, let me know
