Amp settings help

I have an audiopipe 500 watt amp and a single 12in DVC sub that i put in today. I turned on the car and the amp was on but i barely got any sound from the sub and the gain was turned to 2.5 which is the highest it will go. The lowest it will go is 0.25 i believe and when i turned the gain down i got more bass. Is this supposed to happen? This is my first sub install and i am just making sure this os correct. Also how high should i set the frequency because im slightly confused about that too.

Higher the voltage on the amp, the less sensitive it is to the signal. So .25 is more sensitive then it would be at 5. Most decks have 2v pre-outs so keep it above 1v for sure. You're supposed to use an oscilliscope but be careful with the gains.

And usually keep the frequency to about 80 hz.

Thanks, now the power light on the amp is blinking and i have to try to figure out what that means.
