hey im new to this site and not very good at wiring up systems. i have searched on this subject but had no luck. the system isnt great ( i just wanted a little pick me up on the stereo system in my car...i wanted a little bump on the inside of the car but none on the outside). i have a pioneer deck, jl audio door and rear speakers and tweeters. as for the sub and amp, they are 1 12" sony xplod sub and 1 1200 watt xplod amp(Got them for free from a friend and they match the color of the car...and they actually sound pretty good together with my speakers. Now heres where the problem comes:the car was all pre wired for the system when i bought it. i have then had the amp and sub installed for the past 3 years with now problems what so ever. well last week my sub quit working. i checked all connections and fuses. the 40A fuse on the amp was fine and so was the 32V larfer fuse under the hood on the pwer cable was fine. the amp has full power but reads CURRENT OVERLOAD as soon as the pwer is turned on. Can anyone shed some light? again i have touched no settings on the amp and all connections seem fine. how do i get the amp to not overload? thanx for the future help!

last night a rechecked the ground and resecured it to the chassis. also checked all connections. as soon as i turn the HU on, the amp will power on but then go into current overload right away(the sub makes a quick thud then shuts down when the amp goes into its protection mode). all fuses are ok. The only thing i can think of is: I am running four gauge from the battery back(w/ a 32v fuse under the hood) and then a 4 gauge ground in the trunk...I then had to reduce to a 12 gauge for about 1 foot so that i could connect the power and ground wires to the amp. Ive had it this way for the past 3 years with no problems untill now. could this be part of my problem? also if the amp is bellow its limit on its output power...does that mean that the sub isnt ******* enough power from it or that the amp isnt getting enough power from the battery? thanx for any future help.

ive made some changes. i got rid of the 12 gauge that i had between my amp and the 4 gauge power and 4 gauge ground. i then trimmed the 4 gauge down a bit and just hooked these two 4 gauge wires up to my amp. still doesnt work. everything is connected right. rewired my sub with dual 14 gauge wire runing from the amp to the positive and then dual 14 gauge from the wire running from the neg on the amp the the neg on the sub(so technically it is 7 gauge for pos and neg). this still had no affect. amp still reads current overload. and the power light is still on so it cant be blown can it?? i just turned the car one one morning and it dint work(never turned it way to loud and then it stopped). i did have the car in for motor work...then when i got it back it didnt work..but checked the power cable and fuse hookups under the hood and they are all fine. any more ideas? thanx.

Sound like it might be a faulty amp? Try using another amp, cause if the amp is stuck in that mode and you tried reseting it a few times already with no luck, then the amp most likely has a shorted out.
