Amp Power Source

Hi there, I'm thinking of purchasing an amp to install in my car soon but have been thinking of how I am going to wire the power source up in my car. How do most people normally do this?

I have been reading how most head-units are meant to have a "remote on" cable but I looked on the back of my head-unit and there doesn't seem to be one, so I'm guessing I'll have to mount a separate switch for it somewhere.

What I'm more concerned about is where I will get the power source from. Would it be possible to just wire it into the same power source that the head-unit uses, or is this likely to drain too much power from there? If I was to buy a small 300w amp would it really drain much power at all?

Thanks in advance.

1. Your gonna wanna run a power wire hooked to ur positive terminal on the battery back to the amp.

2. Run a ground wire by the amp.

3. Wire the remote wire into the wiring harness on the head unit(check manual but usually blue wire in harness)then run this back to amp.

is this a aftermarket hu?
Yes, the head-unit is one I have bought and installed myself. It's a Lanzar VBD1400 Vibe series head-unit.

1. Your gonna wanna run a power wire hooked to ur positive terminal on the battery back to the amp.2. Run a ground wire by the amp.

3. Wire the remote wire into the wiring harness on the head unit(check manual but usually blue wire in harness)then run this back to amp.
I wasn't sure if running it directly off the battery terminal would be such a good idea if I didn't have any "remote on" cable on my head-unit, which is why I was asking if it would just be possible to wire it into the same source as the head-unit so that when the ignition is turned the head-unit will power up with the amp.

A diagram of the cables on the back of my head-unit can be found on page 6 of this PDF manual... http://www.lanzar.com/manuals/VBD1400.pdf

That would be the remote(wire that turns hu on when car turns on) yes u want to wire into that and run to amp. but u need to run a fused power wire from battery to power amp. be sure to run rcas lol

Ah right I see now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif So the amp can just be wired to the battery terminal and a cable can be run from the blue "power antenna" cable on my head-unit to the "remote on" input on the amp, which will cause the amp to turn on and off whenever the head-unit is on?
