Amp meter shunt?

Hi people, I was thinking about adding an amp meter to my system, running the amp supplies through a shunt, is there any reason why that wouldn't be advised. Will the shunt deliver the power just the same as a copper cable?

if you use the correct ampacity shunt yes it will work, the whole thing about shunts is that they measure a very small voltage drop to determine current. you can easily do some research on google for more info

 
a typical shunt is 200A 75mV. meaning at 200A of current there is a 0.075V drop across the shunt. the ammeter measures the voltage drop and calculates the current. the shunt is matched to the meter.

typical to place the shunt in series with the battery ground wire. if you place the shunt on the amp ground wire, you have an opportunity for noise, but try it first.

This tested well on youtube - not familiar with the brand but it is a pretty standard china build house amplifier...

I agree with every one above. OFC is much better. Copper is a much better conductor than aluminum.
