amp keeps going in protect

the ground was all good i have no idea what it might be, it always happens on a different volume depending how hard the song hits it seems like it cuts off at a certain amount of power

hmmm. i dont now man, but from what im seeing and reading this is VERY common with the kicker amps.

my kx2500.1 does it, aaron7114 kx2500.1 does it, and ive read of a lot of peoples speakers amps doing it as well. i actually have a thread in here about my own problem.

the problem is clear as day...the solution seems to be a mystery. obviously there is either a very common problem with these amps or there is a very common problem with the install of these amps.

my amp does the same thing even with my upgraded electrical when my ia 20.1 didnt even flinch.

it would be nice if we could get a rundown of your electical setup. if this is an install, or electrical supply issue, maybe we can find a common issue that links members that are experiencing these problems together to get a better idea of how to fix it

Hey, my Kicker 750.1 does it as well. Sometimes after i drive for awhile i can play at higher volumes though. Its almost if i have to let it"warm up". Dont know if you are supposed to do that or not?

ok well this guy at this sound shop around here said it might be because the weather and i should just drive around wit the a/c on and my windows up for awhile but that didnt help. so i emailed a couple places and heres what i got

"First, check the inpit sensitivity level, (or what most people think is the amplifier gain). This adjustment might be to hi which is causing the signal to distort and add harmonics which causes the amp to go into protect and come back on.

After checking that, if it still goes into protect, then the amp has sustained some probable output damage."

i have the zx1500.1 connected to 2 12 type rs wired at 1 ohm i also have another kicker zx650.4 for my interiors that does fine all day/

who is that quote from? its not from kicker is it? ive never heard of distortion causing an amp to go into protect, but who knows. im not nearly as experienced with amps as i am other parts of the system.

ok well i called kicker and they asked what subs i had and i told them alpine type r 4 ohm and the guy told me that i should try getting new subs and its probably because they should be 2 ohm and it just is overworking the amp. does this sound right or not?

to tell you the truth. no it doesnt. assuming you have a decent rise in impedance you should be within factory specs for ohm stability.

i guess its possible we are both under the 2 ohm rating with box rise included but IDK.

Wow just Wow, guys complaining about how there amp runs under the recommended ohm load rating. Kicker doesn't take imp rise when recommending their ratings. So you need to have it wired for 2 ohms.I have my zx1500,1 running at 2 ohms with 0 problems, my friend had his zx1500.1 running at 1 ohm with no problems. The zx1500.1 is a power hog at 1 ohm though and i would recommend two batteries in the trunk. i know you run a kx2500.1 too and the funny thing is i don't hear these problems with the zx2500.1 though. Wow, i can't beleive you said this is a common problem with kicker amps. Of course its a common problem cause you guys are running it lower than recommended. Every car is different, just because some may be able to run them at 1 ohm doesn't mean eveyone can, electricals vary too. Well now i seen it all, guys complaining about the performance of an amp thats ran under what the manufacturer recommended. Why anyone would buy two subs with a final ohm load of 1 ohm when they bought a 2 ohm amp is beside me.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

so what? kicker also doesn't bench test these amps on sub woofers..they bench them on a load that is static...

let me ask you something...if you run a amp at a 1 ohm load...and at box rise you never go below 3 ohms...why should the amp kick into protect @ a 3 ohm load when its stable at 2?

as for me stating it might be a common problem...i said it was a common problem because i see people running it AT the manufacturers recommended load at it kicking into protect as well smart guy

I got a better one for ya smart guy, why don't you tell me why everyone i know who runs their kicker amps to recommended loads have 0 problems and get a lot of power from the amp. While the people who run them below their rated load have problems even with imp rise. i guess you just don't get it. I haven't seen anyone running them at recommened loads having the same issue you were. Even the guys who said they are having the same problem are all running them below whats recommended.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

and the smart guy is going against what kicker told him, again WOW.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

but i do understand, after all what does the manufacturer really know. Funny thing is a lot of reps run their products and know what they're talking about.

It's the fvckin zx lineup....mine did the exact same thing...and when they finally figured it out, it was a solder(sp) in the amp itself that kept burning up after it received more than x amount of power.....at least thats what kicker told me....they said it is a common problem in the new zx's.
