Amp is acting weird

well im fairly new here (as you can see from my post count) and i didnt know exactly where to put this thread but this looks like a good place.

now for the problem: ive got an NTX-2006 DHD Power Cruiser 400w amp that i bought off a friend of mine for 10 bucks. the input jacks were broken off, so i soldered some new ones one and i hooked it up to my powerhouse car (94 ford aspire). It worked beautifully, untill i started going down the road (about 2 miles), when it made a poping sound and completeley shut off. I checked all the wiring to the sterio/amp and everything seemed to be fine, so i took the amp out and hooked it to a car battery that i have in the garage. When i put power to the amp it powers itself on (the led turns on and makes a shight poping sound which i cant pinpoint) for about a half a second and turns back off. the led will remain off untill i disconnect one of the power wires and hook it back up again. anyone have any clue about what this could be? ive been screwing around with it for about 5 hours now and im stumped.

As for the problem with your amplifier it sounds to me like your friend jacked you out of $10. The good news is that it was only ten bux rather than an amount that would be considerably harder to swallow. I do not know your level of electrical skill so please do not take this as me bagging on you ~ merely going through the possibilities...

(a) Your replaced the RCA jacks incorrectly and as soon as the car began moving (and all the contents of the interior including said amplifier were subjected to additional forces which were unpresent at rest) either a necessary connection was broken or a two or more components thatdidn't need to touch one another were made to make contact and as a result something went kaput.

(b) Your friend sold you a bum amplifier that had more issues than the plainly obvious lack of complete input jacks.

After that I'm a bit stumped, to tell the truth. I think it would have been nicer to say it in a different manner but I have to admit that gimpster was right on target with his assertion regarding the quality level of those DHD amps (and their speakers and HUs and pretty much everything else they attach their corporate logo to)

Truly do yourself a favor and go get a quality amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif
