amp in protection

what should i check first? bought a used amp on here and got it and hooked it up and it never comes out of protection. i think i may have been scammed. any suggestion?

Reworked grounds I now have two 1/0 to the amp itself and three to the battery. Voltage at amp shows 12.78 with car off. Amp will come on for about ten seconds and then un can hear a click and it goes into protection. Any other ideas
