Amp HOT! Music not even on! WTF? need opinions/inputs

was the amp in the sun while you were driving? When I get in my truck after work my amps black and it's pretty hot to the touch from just sitting there...idk just something to think about

I'm surprised no one said this but from the looks of it, the amp is mounted to the back of the back folding seat. And once the seat is up in place, the amp is hidden...which isn't a good idea. It's a must to have adequite ventilation for an amp that big and puts out so many watts. BTW, have you tried giving Kicker a call? Might be a good idea...

if the amp stays on with radio off, then you need to check the remote wire, amp is not supposed to stay on with radio off
Check on what? all I can see is that they are secure and hooked up.. the amp does not turn off..

but when I kill the engine, it will turn off along with the engine/electricals

Yeah, like "Got Bass 2" asked, does your amp have a remote turn on connection? If so, that should prevent it from being on when the HU is off.
I've also posted a similar thread about my amps (Alpine PDX series) as they run pretty warm too...although they are not the monster you have! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
yes I do have remote wire, but not sure why it isnt turning off..

There was no sunlight on the amp at all.. and I had the windows open ventilating the whole cabin..

I will snap a pic of where I plan on mounting my amp in near future.. I think it is not that bad of an idea but I might have to come up with a good ventilation plans for it to stay stable

So it does turn off, or it does not turn off?

The amp should be on whenever your headunit is on, and should be off whenever the headunit is off. If it is not off when the headunit is off, something is wrong

But as for the amp getting hot, make sure all your power/grounds for your amp connections and big 3 are solid, make sure your RCA cables arent grounding/shorting out behind the headunit, as well as the remote wire

it does NOT turn off the amp..

I ve been driving around with the HU turned off/stand by mode and the amp still lights up green as in it is turned on.

My connections behind the HU are secure.. I crimped the remote wire and the rcas connected together and taped up so it would not come loose or anything

and yes all of my grounds and power connections are secure as well.. I once had a bad ground, the amp went into protect so it would go into protect if I had bad connections.. but I dont so..

Being secure has nothing to do with it. Connections can be secure and still touch another connection

Are the RCA plugs taped TOGETHER, as in side by side touching?

going into protect is only one of many side effects that can be had from bad connections. check them again

no the rcas are taped together individually.. the red ones taped togs and the white one taped togs.. therefore they are not connected side by side.. but would that have made any difference?

and how can it be not done correctly if I connected the blue wire with white stripe on it.. that is all I can do.. ??

AND my amp is not and did not go into protect at all, I am just saying..

Now I am thinking about just throw in my own switch where i can turn the amp on and off myself..

I can bet u that I wired everything up correctly and it still wont turn off..

there is only one remote wire coming out of HU so how can I be wrong or whatever

Your remote wire is either hooked up wrong in the back of your HU or someone has the wire fused and it's turning on and off with the vehicle rather than the HU.
I did the install myself and I did not fuse the wire.. so.. ?

Put a DMM on the remote and see if that bad boy is constant or not...just a quick and easy suggestion. Doesn't sound right though if the amp won't turn off when the HU is off. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
