amp going into protect?

im having trouble with me amp... i tested it with a dmm and 60hz tone. set it under the voltage i needed. gain was about half way up. then i put in a heavy bass song and the amp went into protect. i had to turn the gain down below 1/4 b4 it stoped doing it. at that point the voltage only read 20 and i needed 34v for rated power. (eq flat, volume 45/62)

i only have 2 guesses:

1. power and ground wires were messed up. i had 0awg + running to the batcap then to a distro. block. three 4awg leading off that. 2 of those went to the sub amp, 1 to my 4 channel. then the - runs all went to the same ground, three 4awg and one 0awg. now i changed it so the - run goes to a distro block so its set up the same way as the + and the batcap has the 0awg grounded still. its to late to test it though.

2. something is wrong with the amp.

so since i cant test it i wanted to see if you guys have an idea whats going on.

edit: im also getting dimming. lights stay dim on long bass notes. its not really bad but noticable. think just another battery will help? maybe a red top?

well if its a bad ground then i should have fixed it.

checked voltage, looking at the voltage meter on my disrto block i wasnt even losing a full volt. but who knows how good that thing is. ill check with a dmm.

its a batcap 800 and a yellowtop up front.

ok so its still going into protect.

im also getting intermittent engine wine. i think its comming from the amp but it never does it when i get to a place that i can get out and look at it. it was pretty loud on my last drive.

ive checked over everything and i cant find a source for a problem. think it could just be the amp? anyone in the bay have a 2k amp at 2ohm i can hook up to test?

ya im pretty sure... was your amp going into protect or not giving rated power too?

i guess i could try a new ground... only ither thing i can do is run a ground to the front batt. but i have to drill a hole to get another 0awg through. ugh

you didnt seem to have this problem while you were running your idq's correct ???

and you said the bass hurt lol

check all your connections and your charging sytem because it worked fine and even you vouched for that and now its bunk

also check how you wired your subs

fuse looks fine. the wire i have up front for the battery ground has some white stuff on the terminal on the chassis. like a burn mark but white. dont know if that was their b4 or not. and its dark outside. it felt tight but i could move the wire under the bolt a little bit. any of that bring up a red flag?
