amp goes right into protect mode

i have a little vr3 200 watt amp. i was gonna connect it to my cars factory speakers. once i got everything connected, the protect light comes on and doesnt turn off even after more then 5 minutes... i have checked everything... no blown fuses. and all connections are solid. could it just be the amp?
