amp getting hot with new radio with higher preout voltage

I recently installed a new Clarion cz702 in my ride, which has 5v preouts. My previous radio was a Sony with 2v preouts. Since upgrading I have noticed my Hifonics Brutus 1200.1 went from always being cool to running VERY hot. I run this to a single 12" Memphis Mojo. I then got a second mojo, and ran both of these off the same amp at 2ohms, which puts out 900rms. When doing so, the amp went from running hot, to so hot it burns if you touch it, and finally shutting off. And my lights dimming MUCH more than normal. I then went back to using my single 12" due to fear damaging the amp. I have also have 4 channel amp and it runs exactly as cool as before.

My questions are what causes the amp to get so hot, and what can I do make it run cool again? Why is one amp affected so much by the increased preouts while the other is not? Also why did my lights dim so hard when the amp was putting out 900rms@ 2ohms, and when the amp was running at 1200 @ 1ohm, the lights barely dim?

My guess is you never reset your gains and you now clipping the crap out of your amps. 2 to 5 volts is a big jump so if you had your gains set for a 2v signal, it would do everything your describing.

I'll bet the subs were sounding louder with that new radio as well. You have to match the gain with your new 5v preout as opposed to your 2v preout.
Yes are absolutely correct. They were much louder! Thank you for your advice. I simply turned the bass boost all the down, and now the amp runs ice cold, and the output is virtually the same!

This is true no more clipping for me! I turned the bass boost off and it fixed the problem immediately. Thanks my friend.
